Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is proofreading?

Proofreading is the process of reviewing a written work and marking any errors found. It is the final stage in the editing process before a work goes public. This is because, even after undergoing previous edits, some errors can still get missed. Proofreading, then, is the last opportunity to catch those errors before publishing.

What services do you offer?

Proofreading involves finding and correcting problems with:
•Grammar
•Punctuation
•Capitalization
•Consistency
•Extra/Missing Words
•Overused Words/Phrases
•Redundancy
•Spelling
•Typos
•Word Usage

Proofreading does not include:
•Critiquing          •Content Editing          •Rewriting

What do you specialize in?

I am a general proofreader, meaning I proofread a wide variety of writing, from academic papers to full-length books and anything in between.

What are your rates?

My standard rate is $0.015* per word. I prefer charging by the word because it allows a clear understanding of what my total cost will be for your project. For example: If your word count is 10,000 words, my total cost would be $150.00.

For further information regarding my rates, check here.

* This is the standard rate. Be advised that highly technical projects or projects requiring a rushed turnaround may be quoted at a slightly higher rate to compensate. For an exact quote on your project, please fill out the Contact Me form.

Do you offer sample proofreading?

Yes, I offer free sample proofreading! I will proofread up to 750 words of your project, under no obligation.

I would like for you to provide a sample proofread on my project. What do I need to do?

Simply fill out the “Contact Me” form located here with “Sample Proofread Request” as the email subject. Provide details about your project, such as type of content (essay, blog post, book manuscript, etc.), total word count, format (Word document, Google Docs, PDF, etc.), project deadline, and any other pertinent information. I will then respond either accepting or rejecting your request (depending largely on my current workload and your deadline requirements), and if I am able to accept, I will then provide instructions on how to send your sample selection to me.

I would like to hire you! What are the next steps?

Fill out the Contact Me form located here and provide details about your project—type of content (essay, blog post, book manuscript, etc.), total word count, format (Word document, Google Docs, PDF, etc.), project deadline, and any other pertinent information. I will then create and send a contract outlining the scope of work to be performed, the agreed upon cost, the set deadline, and payment plan.* Once you’ve reviewed and signed the contract, I will begin working on your project!

* For large projects, I will require a percentage of the payment up front with the remaining percentage to follow upon completion of the project.

How do you process payment?

Unless you request otherwise, all payments are handled securely through PayPal. This allows you to pay through your own PayPal account or with your preferred credit card. I do, however, have a couple of clients who prefer to pay by check, and I am happy to accommodate such wishes.
